About me
My name is Nova and my pronouns are she/her. I am a postgraduate student from France, currently studying abroad at University College Cork in Ireland. My two main interests are computer science and languages, which I would like to apply professionally to the domains of software localisation and/or Natural Language Processing.

Education
Current: M.A. in Translation Studies, French and English (2025-2026, University College Cork)
EQF Level 7.
Study of translation theory, linguistics, subtitling and interpreting from French to English and English to French.
Evening classes in science.
I took part in an STB, where I got hands-on experience running a pseudo translation agency about which you can learn more here.
Dissertation topic: Translating English gender-neutrality and non-binary inclusivity into French.

B.A. in Applied Languages (« LEA »), English and Japanese (2022-2025, Aix-Marseille Université)
EQF Level 6.
As part of this degree, I studied languages with a focus on sevral areas of applications: French Law, economics, and management.
I learned the culture of foreign countries tied to the languages I studied (UK, US, Japan) and gained skills as a cultural mediator. I also learned theoretical knowledge through in-depth linguistics classes (phonetics, pragmatics, gender studies, etc.).
In my final year, I chose to specialise in Translation, as it is an application of languages I am passionate about. This also led me to choose an elective class on Audio-Visual Translation and subtitling, which I thouroughly enjoyed.
During this time, I also took German evening classes, strenghening my knowledge and comprehension of the language and its culture.
In these class, as well as a few of my core modules, I took part in several group activities, where I practiced strong communication skills and balanced workload amongst peers.

Volunteer work
I chose to put my note-taking skills to good use by volunteering as a note-taker for students with disabilities, who are unable to show up to classes, or cannot take notes for themselves.
Industry Experience
Volunteer programming for KDE e. V. (2025-)
I help developing KDE applications, such as Merkuro Calendar and KDE Connect, with a focus on UX, usability and localisation. I collaborate with other volunteer contributors to make open-source software better while keeping it freely available to all.
Scribe and invigilator for University College Cork (2026)
Similarly to my work at Aix-Marseille Université bellow, I helped students with disabilities during exams.
Disability Support staff at Aix-Marseille Université (2024-2025)
I assisted disabled students in their academic journey, providing personalised support during exams, while upholding academic integrity and preserving their privacy. I also provided personalised tutoring to students struggling to keep up with pace in class.
Volunteer work for Translators Without Borders (2023-)
I translated and revised humanitarian documents (English to French) under tight deadlines. These are documents used by large international humanitarian organisations relating to geopolitical conflict or aid in dire situations.
