Who am I?

Hello! I am Nova (she/her), student of Translation Studies at University College Cork (Ireland) and part-time volunteer open-source developer.

Having a great interest both for languages and computer science, I’ve come to specialise as a technical translator and localiser. On the natural languages side, I typically work with French (N) and English (C1), but have also been learning German (~B2) and Japanese (~A2).
On the computer science side, I have lately mostly been working on contributing code to the KDE project, using Qt technologies, but have also been learning to use the Hugo framework for building websites (which I am using for this very website!).

Meeting at the intersection of both my interests is the Emacs text editor, an extremely extensible tool for handling all sorts of text files, which I use to organise my academic and personal work, wheather that be on languages and linguistics, or programming and computer science.
I also of course make use of domain-specific tools, such as the Phrase CAT tool for translation and localisation, or Sketch Engine for finding proper terminology.

Goals

Currently, my main goal is to complete my Masters in Translation Studies, with my next major milestone for that being finding a research project for my dissertation. I will share more about my ideas in the coming months as my plans become more concrete!

On my own time, my goal is to improve open-source projects such as KDE and OpenStreetMap by volunteering my time and skills.
