EMT Competences: Language and culture

My main language pair is English-French.
While I believe I am able to translate into French quite well, I am not yet as confident with my English abilities. This is partially why I decided to do a Masters degree in translation in a country where most people speak English.

My hope is to improve my translation abilities into English in order to produce higher quality texts.

Current CEFR levels (as of 2025-09-01):

I do also intend on trying to improve my German abilities, to at least a B2 level. For this, I intend on mostly doing self-study, as I have already acquired language-learning methods which work well for. My goal is to get a B2 German language proficiency test by Summer 2027.
To reach this goal, I have already started consuming more German-language content (listening to daily news podcasts), but intend on putting in more effort to learn the language once I graduate from my current postgraduate programme. My main strategy will be to use flashcards to learn vocabulary, and picking up grammar through immersion. This is a simmilar strategy to what I used to learn Japanese during my undergraduate programme, and worked well enough– though, as I had a good amount of class hours, I could not focus on learning the language as much as I would have hoped.
